Workshop Steps:

phase 1- The workshop
1. We will meet everyone who wants to participate in the soil remediation in the same place where the initial meeting took place.
2. We will have the necessary tools available for them and show them step by step how to apply the fertilizer and till the ground
4. After the initial distribution and tilling of the fertilizer the plot will have to be tilled 2-4 times a week.
5. At the conclusion of this workshop a work schedule should be drafted and put in a place that everyone can see it.
6. We will begin the next phase, cleaning the soil, within the next few days!

phase 2- cleaning the soil
1. We will measure out one-hectare area of the land that the village designates as the community plot.
2. The community has the fertilizer and tools made available to them. After the workshop where we instructed them on how to properly use them we will only be there to oversee the progress being made and to assist if necessary.
3. The villagers should follow the work schedule that they constructed during phase 1 and just continue to do so.
4. Throughout the six weeks we will be measuring the pH of the soil to ensure that all is going as planned and adjust if necessary

- If it seems like the remediation process is taking slower than it should we should add an additional ton of fertilizer and increase the tillage of the plot.
- If it is proven that it is not in the range we will continue with the remediation for an additional 2 weeks and test the soil once again.
phase 3- planting the crops
1. After our initial meeting with the villages and finding what crops they would like to harvest we will inquire to see if they have the seeds available or if they would like us to provide the seeds.
2. If it is proven that they do not have the seeds available to plant we will try and get in contact with “IITA Research to Nourish Africa” and see if they are able to provide us with seeds.
4. After the growing season is complete and the crops are ready to be harvested our only job will be to monitor and ensure that the work schedule is being carried out as it should be and that families are given their share of the yield at the end of harvesting.

- IITA Research to Nourish Africa is a nonprofit organization and one of the worlds leading research partners in finding solutions for hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. They work with partners to enhance crop quality and productivity, reduce producer and consumer risks, and generate wealth from agriculture. They have headquarters in Nigeria and there is no doubt that they would be willing to partner with us and help out.
